Maria Shriver grew up connected to the Kennedy family. That gave her access not only to political power and wealth, but the high-quality hair genetics displayed by President John Kennedy (her uncle) and others. Shriver has written her mother considered hair "integrally connected to her sense of beauty and femininity." That thinking may well have stayed with Shriver, as she moved into a career in broadcast journalism.
Shriver displayed professional and solid styles as a network news anchor, such as this look from CBS News in 1986. Once her husband Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor of California, she stepped away from full-time TV work and let her hair go longer.
