May 2003: Sideparts with a Twist, Page 3
This fashion model displays a good, basic haircut for the
trade - bangs across the forehead, then slightly longer lengths from the chin to the
shoulder. It looks great, but a crosswind would put this style in some danger. So....
The right-side long hair closest to the eyes is combed back, in
a very soft twist. It starts a little higher for her, around the eyebrow - and with a light
spray added, it can look quite natural while showing good strength when pressure
builds. In fact, with this approach the hair seems to look a bit thicker.
If this "new twist" looks a bit familiar - well, maybe it is. Some might
compare it to the Farrah Fawcett-Majors flipped-back look of the late 1970's. This
picture shows a fully-curled version of it, which some call a "sausage roll." We highly
recommend the Feathered Back hair site for more examples of this style, and how to
develop it.
The style currently making the "rounds" is a bit less harsh than the last photo, which makes it a bit more feminine. It's also only on the "vulnerable" side of a sidepart. Using a curler or curling iron and some spray, the twist can become an interesting mix of strength and romanticism for longer hair.
