July 2009: Farrah, Feathers and Flips, Page 3
ALEXANDRA STEELE shows what we consider a 21st-century version of The Farrah
from time to time on The Weather Channel. The left side of the style is flipped back, yet the overall look appears very
natural and carefree. What we've come to call the "feathers of Steele" helped make her a Top Ten Tresses fixture, while
winning her a Crown Award.
It wouldn't be fair to call this a "Farrah," but even women with short hair
can borrow ideas from the style. This model in a magazine ad flares her ends -- and the ad suggests you use a wax from
Matrix to "sculpt" and "mold" the hair into perfect position. We dare to think this look might outlast Fawcett's on a windy
day.
SUMMARY: Farrah Fawcett made young men swoon, and made plenty of young women rush to salons to copy her hairstyle. With some adjustments, her approach can still be functional today. Allen Edwards called his creation a style that "Miss America could wear...." and "the Wal-Mart of hair." We assume those are words of praise, for a look that's popular and enduring.
