The Ultimate 50

13. Bonnie Bernstein

HOMETOWN: New York, NY

BORN: 8/16/70

PROFESSION: Sports reporter

HER BEST STYLE: The one in our background photo -- a well-teased, and likely well-sprayed, sidepart that bounces off the collarbone (except this hair doesn't seem to bounce at all). Long hair can be tucked behind the ears for extra protection. (We have to admit we're less thrilled by the "longer look" she's had lately.)

HISTORY: She was smart enough to be an academic All-American - and athletic enough to be a gymnast at Maryland. So it was not surprising for her to bounce ahead quickly to a sports job with CBS. And hair fans rooted her on, as her style stayed as well-controlled as a top balance beam performer. She prepares for games as well as anyone; rough outdoor football weather brings out protective hats. But her hair is as strong as a defensive lineman without them.

WHY SHE'S RANKED HERE: She scores fractions above the somewhat similar style of Betsy Stark because her hair is longer, seems riskier due to a lack of bangs, and has looked more attractively "in line" lately.
