The Ultimate 50
28. Paula Cinko
2024 Update
Paula may have settled into retirement at age 73. There's nothing new from her social media to share. But her perfect short cuts from years gone by live on, thanks to YouTube fans of The Dean Martin Show. This screenshot with the equally hair-incredible Michelle Della Fave comes from the "Dino LIVE" channel, recorded in 1970. The channel has several more of them.
We can only presume Paula's hair remains prefect and undefeated. She shared some of her Super-Hair secrets with us in 2010. Check the complete interview in Super-Hair Q&A. And if you have new photos to share, please pass them along!

2022 Update
The only Cinko updates online these days seem to come when other people post items to her Facebook feed. But we were happy to find video of Paula from a Golddiggers reunion in Las Vegas in 2018. She sang for a TV appearance with seven other women - and with short hair still as precisely cut and strong-holding as ever.
You can find the full clip and other tidbits at a Facebook feed dedicated to "The Original Golddiggers." The clips might be classic instead of current, but you can still marvel at this classic example of short-haired perfection in action.

2020 Update
Sad to say, Cinko seems out of sight these days. We found no new or current photos of her for this update. But we're grateful to eBay for finally providing a quality picture of Cinko from the summer of 1970, when TV Guide did a feature on The Golddiggers' series in London. Her short hair is utter perfection: bangs covering the forehead and unlikely to move, and even a hint of curl on the sides to guard against wind.
Cinko posted on her Facebook feed this picture of a playful group moment backstage, perhaps in Las Vegas. Here the hair seems more vulnerable, as if she's lowered the preparation level. Which style would you rather go after?
And while we had to magnify the screen a lot, how about a Cinko picture from high school! E-Yearbook dates this from 1965, with surprising and probably well-sculpted flip - but the bangs are still there, making sure the hair can't fall. Will anything ever be found that's capable of doing her in? The more time goes on, we doubt it.

2018 Update
While other "Golddiggers" continue to perform on tour, Paula seems to prefer privacy. She still posts items on Facebook, but they're almost completely the posts of others. Yet she consented to a lengthy YouTube interview about her career in late 2017. Paula's current style shows little change - short and wavy, cut well back with a hint of bangs across her forehead. (Spoiler alert: it's never in danger during the clip.) This vidcap lets you compare 2017 and 1971 styles....
...but compare them with this look, from the "Dean Golds and Dings" Facebook page. One of Paula's earliest TV appearances in August 1969 shows her Super-Hair as close to her eyes as we've ever seen it! The bangs barely clear her right eye!
We know of no video to go with this picture - so we're left in suspense over whether a production number might have shaken the hair enough to bring it down, or even expose the forehead. It would be great fun and drama to watch. Now you may understand why we still call her "Super-Cinko."

2016 Update
Paula remains relatively private in Ohio, posting updates on Facebook from time to time. This picture from June reveals she's wearing glasses now - as if her short cuts needed another line of defense, to stay out of her eyes. There's natural wave showing here, but the hair seems to be cut well enough notto fall (close to her righr eye though it is).
Just for fun, let's compare Paula's style with glasses from a Dean Martin Show clip we found on YouTube. There are a few more of her there now, if you search for her name. This cut is more streamlined, but we doubt those bangs would move much - and the chances of a drop are almost nil.
A Facebook hunt also found this rare picture of Cinko in the 1990s - with a 1993 bowl-type helmet that's practically flawless, yet probably ready to bounce a bit if pressed. To that "Golds and Dings" Facebook page which mentioned us in late 2015: YES, we're still enamored with Paula's hair. As long as it remains undefeated and seemingly unbeatable, how could we not be?

2014 Update
Paula admits she doesn't say much on her Facebook account. But that remains the best place to keep up with this Golddigger, with help from a fellow dancer
who also has displayed impressive hair for decades. This picture with Michelle Della Fave (another woman we've interviewed for Super-Hair Q&A) was taken during a reunion in August. There's a
bit of wave in Paula's short cut, but it's still precise -- as only a rare picture displays strands out of line and close to her eyes.
Together, Michelle and Paula also are also bringing out Golddigger pictures you've probably never seen before. We recommend their accounts as a great way to consider top styles from a bygone era.

2012 Update
She may have been computer shy in years gone by, but Paula started a modest Facebook account in 2011. It has no updated photos beyond the one we posted here in 2010. We sent Paula a message asking for an update on her (and her hair, of course), but received no response before this post.
YouTube is sadly empty, when it comes to video of Paula's years with the Golddiggers. But new photos were posted in late 2011 of the group performing at the U.S.
Military Academy in New York. Paula's the tall woman in the middle, with a well-rounded cut which almost looks like it's trying to surround and fall in her right eye. Review more classic pictures of
"Super-Cinko" at a tribute site called "Dean, Golds and Dings."

2010 Update
There's a very good reason why we skipped over this update in our countdown. We were busy tracking down Paula, and gaining a personal interview with
her! She sent us a keepsake letter, including this recent picture. Paula's widened her classic short cut in recent years with a perm. She insists her hair still doesn't fall in her eyes - but don't a couple
of strips on either side look long enough to do it?
Paula also sent this surprising photo - from a "blonde period" she tried during the 1990s! Her hair was on the long side of a bowl cut in that era as well.
Paula was on worker's compensation when we talked with her -- away from her Ohio job due to an injury. But she was able to share a lot of information about her decades of success with short hair. Watch for that online exclusive interview in Super-Hair Q&A!

2008 Update
The Hyde Park restaurant chain now has a web site - but we found no sign of Paula there, except for one page where a short style seems to
hide in a corner. So we're still lacking in new pictures, short of making a road trip to Ohio. But we're thrilled to report more photos of Paula's classic Golddiggers look are now posted online. This
vid-cap shows the tips of her bangs temptingly looking scattered around the eyebrows. But you have to look long and hard to find a picture where her forehead was exposed, with hair well out of line
or threatening to come forward toward her eyes.
If you want to see more of this, we highly recommend "The Golddiggers Super Site" -- indeed a gold mine for people interested in Super-Hair of the early 1970's.

2006 Update
We thank all of you who have contacted us with "Cinko sightings!" As of this writing, we're pretty sure she's working at an Akron, Ohio top-dollar steak house -- although e-mailers haven't sent any current photos.
The nicest message apparently came from Cinko herself, in September 2004. She wrote Super-Hair: "My hair is still the same for the most part. I was blonde for a while but now I am back to brunette, coloring occasionally to cover any miscellaneous grays. I work as a food server and sales representative at the Hyde Park Grille in Akron Ohio. I used to sing with the band there after work, but the band has been taken away, so I sing in the car, a lot :) I live with my beautiful family, my mother, my brother, his son, and his wife. I have never been married nor have I had any children, and I don't look so bad for someone born in 1950...."
We wrote Paula back asking for an interview, but we haven't heard from her since. (We think she borrowed a family computer and e-mail address to contact us.) If you're in the Akron area and see her, please let her know Super-Hair still wants to talk style secrets with her!

2004 Update
At the end of 2003, we received e-mail from a longtime friend of Paula. He told us she did many national commercials in New York, then "left for Hollywood." We asked him to help arrange an interview with her for us -- but sadly, we've heard nothing since.
A recent online check uncovered one clue to Paula's whereabouts -- a commercial acting workshop with her name on it, perhaps in the Los Angeles area. But we have no new picture of her, nor even a location for the school. We ask again for your help; write us through the link below if you've spotted this classic short style.

2002 Update
This is one time when we wish we bought that "Net Detective" software which keeps showing up in our e-mail. Cinko (shown at the top of this picture of the
Golddiggers) has seemingly disappeared -- and all we've learned additionally about her is that she appeared in a short-lived Broadway revival of the musical "Good News" in 1974.
(Just to the left of Paula in the picture is another woman whose hair thrilled us during that era - the long blonde locks of Michelle Della Fave.)
Our appeals for help in finding her remain open. If you know where Cinko is now, please let us know. You might also contact a web site which still remembers the Golddiggers, which provided us our latest photo.
