The Ultimate 50
6. Lisa Salters
2006 Update
Lisa received her top sports reporting assignment yet with the
2005-06 National Basketball Association season, as a sideline reporter for ESPN and ABC. Her short straight (perhaps
flat-ironed?) hair was as picture-perfect as ever. It was so impressive that we promoted her at last to the Top Ten Tresses
list.
But basketball is played inside -- and when Lisa was named later as the
main sideline reporter for ESPN Saturday Night Football on ABC, we were anxious to tune in. A double Top-10 ranking style
was outside, in often-breezy stadiums! By positioning herself for the camera and preparing the style with crown pullbacks
and hints of flips, Lisa made her Super-Hair look still natural, yet reinforced with hold for possible threats.
Yet a surprise came on opening night in Atlanta. A strip of hair went
across Lisa's forehead in one report. It stayed out of her eyes somehow, but this was her narrowest escape yet. Would she
learn from this close call, and find a way to keep her unbeaten style more secure?
After an impressive comeback in Texas, a rather surprising moment of truth for
Lisa came on 16 September in Los Angeles. A crosswind came up, while Lisa's hands were busy with a microphone and
notes. With only her body available as a back-up, the Super-Hair was practically on its own to survive or fall. She battled
gamely to keep the style out of her face....
....but a few strands came up from the corner and covered her left eye.
It was brief, and not a wholesale collapse -- and the right side of her hair kept quite a flawless "sheepdog helmet" look. But
the Super-Style at last had been overpowered, and ruled down to defeat.
Deep-down Hair Fans live for dramatic moments like this, and we applaud the fight Lisa and her hair put up. We still believe there's hardly any sideline reporter with stronger hair au natural in the clutch than her.

2004 Update
Maybe we need to start a "Super-Salters" fan club - because no one else has done it online. Her
duties at ESPN have taken her as far as Kuwait. Her hair apparently still remains unbeaten, helped by occasional tie-backs
or tuck-backs in windy situations. Her she combs hair well back to be safe.
Yet sadly, there's no Internet evidence for or against Salters - not even on the ESPN web site. In fact, we've posted practically every photo of her in existence online. C'mon, somebody!

2002 Update
Lisa has become a world-traveling reporter for ESPN. Yet from what we've seen, her hair still
refuses to go "Outside the Lines." It's still a solid shell -- teased and probably sprayed at the top for security, then tucked
and combed as far back as possible.
But what gives with this woman? When we searched for Lisa's name online and discovered our site had the top two results, we weren't sure whether to be thrilled or disappointed. Maybe she's too good a reporter for sports fans to consider her a "hottie" in the mold of an Arrington or a Bernstein. If so, we think that's a compliment - and we'll declare Lisa the thinking Hair Fan's choice.
We found only a few Salters pictures are available online. We found the best variety not at ESPN, but the web site of Major League Soccer, since she was part of the coverage for that other World Cup.
