December 2005: Permed to Perfection, Page 3
This is more of a playful perm, with loose
curls and a moderate wave. It appeared in a newspaper ad promoting JC Penney salons in 1994
-- not exactly a popular time for permanents, but still attractive to us. Women can use a curling
iron to do this for a one-night event, such as a party. But the perm should allow this curl to keep
its tempting shape for weeks.
From the same ad comes this variation on the
perm. The wave is pushed more to one side here. Add some spray to the style to guard against
flyaways, and with teasing on top this hair could be ready to take on almost anything.
SUMMARY: People who pick on permanents based on the "high hair" 1980's really aren't being fair. A perm can added hidden muscle, strength and control to a style. And it doesn't have to turn that style into a wilderness of frizz. Hair Fans who find a perfect perm may as well have hit a deep oil well -- for it's a look with lasting beauty, daring you to admire it for as long as you're able, yet still confident it can outlast you.
