THE Ultimate 50

18. Loni Anderson

HOMETOWN: St. Paul, MN

BORN: 8/5/1945

DIED: 8/3/25

PROFESSION: Actress

HER BEST STYLE: The look that became her classic while at the WKRP in Cincinnati reception desk. We will quote from a picture on one of her biggest fan's web sites, which reveals how you can have this style:

"Hair skims collarbone, and graduated layers are cropped shorter at the crown.... Blow-dry with a round brush, directing bangs forward, sides away from temples. Sweep the hair behind bangs to one side; turn ends under. Mist roots with spray; finger-comb bangs into place."

Condensed version: hot, processed hair with bangs sprayed into perfect position, whether straight or curled.

HISTORY: Now you know her secrets to extraordinary hold, but we still don't know how to break through all these defenses and put her hair in her eyes. At times she's worn it mere fractions of an inch from defeat - so close that her eyes seemed to be in shadow. Yet windy conditions, such as bikini-modeling shoots, merely blew this strong style backward. Crosswinds, which you'd think would be her biggest threat, never could crack her locked-in bangs - or if they did, the bangs fell across the forehead, too short to hit her eyes. We don't know what brand of spray she used, but it deserves an award for "quality control."

WHY SHE'S RANKED HERE: We thought we'd seen this hair down at some point, but a review of hundreds of photos turned up nothing. The style can be tossed, but it's never lost. We placed her above the somewhat similar style of Morgan Fairchild only because this style has been more solid over the years, with her bangs acting like a helmet at times.
