The Ultimate 50
27. Lisa Stark
2012 Update
In April 2011, Lisa appeared live outside Baltimore-Washington International
Airport at the start of ABC World News - and the winds which naturally seem to occur on airport tarmacs
seriously mussed her Super-Hair as soon as she appeared on camera. Bangs were all over her forehead, even
curving above her left eye.
Not even a tilt of the head could keep that strip of hair from
eventually dropping. But did it fall in her eye?
It took a lot of video reviewing and snaps of our camera at the computer -- but we finally
caught the moment. The lower part of that "split bang" covered Lisa's eye. Her hair was defeated. But given
her years as a space and transportation reporter, Lisa showed amazing control to keep her styles in place for so
long.

2010 Update
If you have a consistent winning style, why make any changes? That seems to be Lisa's
thinking when it comes to hair. The same basic look remains on ABC News, as in this report from June. The big question
remains for us: could that hair above the right eye be long enough to drop in her eyes? It never comes undone, to even hint
at the answer....
....yet this side view from a May report leads us to think it could. Hair combed back above
the right ear looks like it might be vulnerable. But that probably would take a big windstorm, and we can't recall her ever
appearing publicly in severe weather. That's how Super-Hair remains "Super," you know -- and her hair still is.

2008 Update
Careful cutting continues, for this veteran ABC News reporter. This photo from a Boston
University breakfast lecture (still the best gallery we can find) provides a good look at it -- with length behind the ears, and
strands progressively getting shorter from the ears forward. Lisa still can tuck hair behind the ears, if they seem too
bothersome and dangerous.
Yet this short style still encounters occasional tough tests. We put this one from
Florida's Kennedy Space Center in our Hair Pressure section during 2007 -- as a crosswind tried to bring the Super-Hair
down from the seemingly less protected left side.
The hair came this close to landing in her left eye, and bringing defeat. Yet amazingly, it stopped
there -- and without Lisa even tilting her head or making a noticeable adjustment. Talk about confidence and strength, to go
with that carefulness.

2006 Update
Super-Hair should be enduring -- and Lisa remains that way, both with her style and her
duties at ABC News. We're noticing her more often in reports from Washington, and her basic look remains practically
flawless. This vid-cap from an April newscast shows a well-trimmed helmet-style cut. Could that loose strip of bangs above
the right eye be long enough to fall? If so, it never does. The hair holds firmly when pressured around the face.
Yet when the wind is threateningly dominant, as on this February evening, she's positioned so the
hair goes back and out of danger. (She may have tucked it behind the ears for this outdoor challenge, in fact.) We found out
during this update that she was a college valedictorian -- so as with other women here, her brains are reflected in her hair.
There's actually a bit of a gallery in Lisa's behalf now, in the journalism section of the Boston University web site.

2004 Update
The good news about Lisa is that she has files reports for ABC News at least once a week, so
it's easy to stay updated on her styles. We snapped this shot off the evening news a few days before posting this update -- and
her bangs were well-trimmed at the eyebrow.
This better view from a few days before shows she can display as many or as few
bangs as she desires -- with the rest being sideswept. There's enough length on the left side that a wind could pose problems.
But that's the bad news, as far as we're concerned -- she's hardly ever outside letting her hair face a test. When she is, the
hair is as solid as ever.
Since it appears no other web site is interested in this unfailing hair, we're willing to start a photo file of Stark's style at our message board -- but only if there's sufficient interest. If you'd like us to do this, let us know by e-mail.

2002 Update
Lisa's locks these days are more in the form of a basic helmet than this picture (the only current one
we could find) shows. After toying with growing out her hair, she's returned to the short style that seems best for her. The
bangs are now well-trimmed and occasionally fall on the forehead, but never threaten the eyes. The sidepart even swaps
sides from time to time, for reasons we don't quite understand.
To see this transportation reporter in action on planes and in cars, your best online option seems to be the ABC News web site and its collection of video clips. She's apparently too good a journalist to have her own fan club. (Is that good or bad?)
