EuroCup '24
** LONG NAME, LONG RUN FOR LITHUANIA! **
Please don't ask us to pronounce the last name of Irmina Preišegalaviciute. We have enough trouble spelling it. But we know that she has a history of success in pageants in Lithuania. She was "Miss Grand Lithuania" in 2017, then represented her country at the "Miss International" contest in 2023. Preišegalaviciute is also a model and drama who is fluent in several languages. And during group play in Super-Hair EuroCup '24, she wrote on Facebook: "Be a priority, not an option." Preišegalaviciute was the top priority of our voters, who awarded Lithuania its third EuroCup in a row!
Nominated by a Hair Fan, the well-posed looks of Preišegalaviciute and her medium-long hair impressed people so much that she scored two shutouts in group play. Then she blanked Scottish actress Ruth Connell in the finals! Her toughest test may have come in Match 1, when she defeated Belarus's 2012 champion and 11-time Crown Award winner Victoria Azarenka.
The United Kingdom grabbed two of the top three positions in our tournament, as English TV anchor and 2023 Crown winner Monika Plaha won the Consolation Final by an 80% margin over Italian volleyball star Rebeka Fucka. That gives England a guaranteed spot in Super-Hair World Cup VII, while Italy is outside for now.
The EuroCup '24 process began with weeks of open nominations. Then on 3 May, we had a live draw for groups on Google Meet. After two National Qualifying Weeks and six weeks of round-robin group play, four group winners advanced from there to the playoffs - with only one hairstyle representing a nation:
GREEN GROUP:
LITHUANIA: IRMINA PREIŠEGALAVICIUTE. The current "Miss International Lithuania," as well as an actress and model, for some reason has "Einhorn" in her Facebook address.
Lithuania 12 points, Belarus (Victoria Azarenka) 8, Ireland (Katie McGrath) 2, Netherlands (Danielle van de Donk) 0.
BLUE GROUP:
SCOTLAND: RUTH CONNELL. An actress in Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix reached the playoffs for the second EuroCup in a row, moving up from fourth in 2020.
Scotland 13 points, France (Melissa Secchiaroli) 10, Czechia (Krystina Pyszkova) 5, Sweden (Sarah Backman Rotunda) 0.
ORANGE GROUP:
ENGLAND: MONIKA PLAHA. A BBC News journalist and Crown Award winner won a four-way National Qualifying battle, then dominated her group like no one else before Lithuania conquered her.
England 15 points, Wales (Gabrielle Creevy) 7, Spain (Penelope Cruz) 5, Finland (Saga Ukkonen) 0.
RED GROUP:
ITALY: REBEKA FUCKA. A volleyball player at Fairleigh Dickinson University and one-time Myrtle Beach, South Carolina City League champion emerged unscathed from a group with two Crown Award winners.
Italy 12 points, Poland (Kaja Paschalska) 9, Greece (Maria Sakkari) 5, Russia (Dashik Gubanova) 0.
