The 12th Annual Crown Awards

#CrownAwards

After weeks of open nominations and about two months of online voting, the winners of the 2011 Crown Awards were announced live in our chat room 11 March. Thanks to all the Hair Fans who voted, and congratulations to this year's winners!

BEST SHORT HAIR: DIANNA AGRON.

A thick layered cut brought Glee to Hair Fans, and prevailed over a wide range of other styles.

Agron 39 percent, Dana Perino 24%, Morena Baccarin 19%, Callista Gingrich 10%, Annie Ilonzeh 8%.

BEST LONG HAIR: ERIN ANDREWS.

The ESPN heartthrob of many college males wins this award for the second year in a row, fighting off a Charlie's Angels challenge.

Andrews 41 percent, Minka Kelly 34%, Lourdes Stephen 12%, Natalie Gulbis 5%, Kat Dennings 4.4%, Beth Behrs 3.5%.

BEST CURLS: DANIELA GANOZA.

She covers Hollywood for Univision's Primer Impacto -- and her high-risk big waves had a dominating first week of voting to top both co-champions from a year ago.

Ganoza 34 percent, Alicia Minshew 26%, Alyson Footer 25%, Jennifer Beals 10%, Annalynne McCord 5%.

BEST BANGS: MELISSA RAUCH.

Some might find it fitting that an actress on The Big Bang Theory won this Crown. Others might consider it a big upset, considering who finished third.

Rauch 41 percent, Leeann Tweeden 23%, Zooey Deschanel 19%, Paula Creamer 14%, Grace Potter 5%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE ON TELEVISION: REBEKA MONTOYA.

Who says soap operas are dead? General Hospital provides its second different Crown winner here in as many years.

Montoya 38 percent, Connie Britton 32%, Elisabeth Hasselbeck 17%, Minka Kelly 9%, Laura Wright 3%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN A MOVIE: ROSE BYRNE.

Bridesmaids may have been a raunchy comedy, but this Australian actress had long hair which one Hair Fan said was best "by a mile." Indeed, she gained the highest percentage of any Crown winner!

Byrne 73 percent, Holly Valance 12%, Paula Patton 7%, Kristen Stewart 4%, Nicole Kidman 3%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN MUSIC: LINDA EDER

For the first time, this Crown finds a home on Broadway. A singer of show tunes was praised for "rich color" and the way her hair "falls on her shoulders."

Eder 41 percent, Taylor Swift 34%, Grace Potter 14%, Jennifer Hudson 9%, Florence Welch 2%.

BEST NEW ORIGINAL STYLE: ELLY JACKSON.

This spiky yet swooshy style from the Euro-pop group La Roux prevailed over a Top Ten Tresses member.

Jackson 44 percent, Lisa LaFlamme 38%, Liz Cambage 18%.

BEST HAIR IN ATHLETICS: LINDSEY VONN.

It was a downhill run all the way for this Olympic gold medalist, who keeps this Crown in the skiing lodge for a second year.

Vonn 49 percent, Danica Patrick 29%, Morgan Pressel 17%, Natalie Gulbis 4%, Julia Goerges 2%.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: VICTORIA JUSTICE.

The star of Nickelodeon's Victorious lived up to that title, winning praise for "amazing hair" in a category one voter said had "too many good choices."

Justice 33 percent, Beth Behrs 25%, Rebeka Montoya 17%, Meredith Ley 11%, Lori Rothman 8%, Holly Sonders 6%.

BEST BLONDE: BETH BEHRS.

The wealthier of CBS's 2 Broke Girls wins a Crown here, despite a fifth-place showing up the ballot. Perhaps that's because the two-time defending champion of this category strangely was not nominated by anyone.

Behrs 35 percent, Melissa Rauch 28%, Natalie Gulbis 15%, Lourdes Stephen 15%, Elisha Cuthbert 8%.

BEST BRUNETTE: VICTORIA WARREN.

After a curious one-year sabbatical from the Crowns, a Boston TV reporter returned with a longer style but the same superiority. Accusations of vote-stuffing were answered with: "Victoria in person - beautiful!!"

Warren 54 percent, Lea Michele 21%, Sofia Vergara 13%, Paula Creamer 6%, Kyle Richards 5.6%.

BEST REDHEAD: AMANDA RIGHETTI.

A colleague of The Mentalist wins this award for the second year in a row -- but several comments declared this the best field from top to bottom.

Righetti 32 percent, Connie Britton 20%, Dana Delany 20%, Alyson Footer 20%, Jane Levy 9%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN JOURNALISM: VICTORIA WARREN.

The Boston journalist is this year's only double-Crown winner, and moves into second place all-time with eight awards.

Warren 61 percent, Alisyn Camerota, 18%, Gerri Willis 12%, Lourdes Stephen 7%, Serene Branson 2%.

MAKEOVER OF THE YEAR: JULIE BANDERAS.

The Fox News Channel veteran decided to grow out her medium-long hair when she was moved off the anchor desk. That earned her a hair's-breadth victory in the closest contest of the year.

Banderas 26 percent, Jenny Anchondo 25%, Courtney Reagan 25%, Jillian Michaels 22%, Becky Quick 3%.

BEST HAIR IN WEATHER/SCIENCE: MARIA LaROSA.

A decade after Hair Fans first discovered her on local television in Georgia, this meteorologist becomes the third winner of this category from The Weather Channel.

LaRosa 36 percent, Stephanie Abrams 27%, Amber Sullins 17%, Jen Carfagno 11%, Bonnie Schneider 9%.

BEST HAIR IN GOVERNMENT/POLITICS: REP. MARSHA BLACKBURN.

Nashville's only Crown winner this year is not a country singer, but this Republican lawmaker. We believe she also makes history as our oldest winner ever, at age 59.

Blackburn 37 percent, Michele Bachmann 22%, Deborah Hersman 19%, Callista Gingrich 13%, Kamala Harris 9%.

BEST HAIR SPORTS REPORTING: LEEANN TWEEDEN.

Hair described as "amazingly soft" (perhaps combined with a Playboy photo spread) makes this Fox Sports West baseball reporter and Poker After Dark co-host the first winner of this category from outside ESPN.

Tweeden 43 percent, Erin Andrews 25%, Holly Sonders 25%, Colleen Dominguez 4%, Alyson Footer 3%.

SUPER-HAIR WARS CHAMPION HAIRSTYLE OF THE YEAR: JENNY ANCHONDO.

An early-morning news anchor in Indianapolis won two matches with a blonde look. Then she switched to her regular brunette color and rallied from a #7 seed to a closing-hours victory in a dramatic final round.
