Cutting-Edge Hair News - 2025
From the first time American Idol viewers saw Carrie Underwood, her hair has been as bright blonde as a sunny day in eastern Oklahoma. She's occasionally added strips of red to add "fire" at awards shows (don't ask us how) - but her main look not only helped her win a singing contest, but seven Crown Awards (three in a row for Best Blonde) and a place in your Hair Fan's Hall of Fame. Yet all this time, Underwood hid a hair secret: that blondeness was NOT 100% real. She revealed on Instagram in early August that "the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old." Underwood displayed several views of a "back to my roots" darker shade - what's come to be called "bronde."
Has Underwood made a mistake by going "back to my roots"? Not at all, our Hair Fans say. They endorsed the "zecond chance" color by a strong 86% margin (6-1). While no one left a comment, regular visitors know it's not a matter of color with us - it's style control, strength and hold. Underwood hss shown that regularly for about 20 years. That's the hair secret we really want her to reveal. Yet if the brightness hasn't exposed it, will a darker shade do it? We somehow doubt it - but that keeps her interesting.

Is it the bangs? The length? The fact that they both have "S-S" initials? Whatever the reason, two women's hairstyles stood above the rest when we asked you to tell us "Who's #1" on our Top Ten Tresses list for 2025. The voters decided we were right to put former Defense Department staffer-turned-analyst Sabrina Singh at the top. (Whew!) But she was joined by telenovela star Samantha Siqueiros, whom we had placed at #9.
Singh and Siqueiros synthesized at 27% of the vote. Another "S-S" didn't do quite as well, but the BBC's Suni Sumaskanda tied for third with 14%. She was joined by Australian host Natalie Barr and CBS News reporter Caitlin Huey-Burns. The other five in our 10 received no votes at all, which led to a familiar comment: "If they don't receive votes, kick them off the list!" Even though all 10 are practically perfect with their hair, we'll certainly watch them all closely.

In more than 23 years of these "Edgy" questions, we've never asked Hair Fans about a prison inmate. But to many people, Ghislaine Maxwell is not your ordinary prisoner. Not because of her hairstyles, but because of her known and rumored connections. Maxwell is serviug a lengthy federal prison sentence for child sex trafficking. Supporters say she should receive a pardon or commuted sentence, if there's no list of clients involving partner Jeffrey Epstein. It's not our place here to argue that - and perhaps surprisingly, no one in our comments about Maxwell went there.
We simply wondered about Maxwell's hairstyle. It was short and tight during many of her years with Epstein, but grew out to shoulder-length by the time of a 2022 prison "mugshot" (right) posted by backers which looked new to us. Our voters reached a one-week unanimous verdict on this: longer is better (6-0). "Keep letting it grow!" one voter wrote. As long as she's behind bars, Maxwell has plenty of time to do that. If she "goes free" from prison, anything could happen - both with her hair and the Epstein story.

Some women take Super-Hair very seriously. In fact, they're often the women Hair Fans want to watch and pursue. But others are more carefree and fun about their styles. Actor (her wording) Alexandra Daddario strikes us that way, based on a series of Instagram pictures she posted in mid-July. It was a "before/after" chronology of her decision to get a cut. "Needed a change," Daddario wrote as she contemplated what to do. Two photos later (and with a timelapse video of the process), her long hair was a bob with so much movement that she could swing it into an eye in her car or on the driving range.
Did New York stylist "HairBender212" do the right thing for the star of The White Lotus and other productions? Our voters couldn't decide, ending a week-long question with a tie (3-3). One comment noted the obvious about the "after" photo, but took us to task for it: "an obvious disqualification for a Super Hair ranking. Please change that dumb rule." Yet that rule helps separate the Daddarios from the more dramatic and serious women in our world of Super-Hair. At least we let you express your thoughts on all the levels here.

If there's one Hollywood star "most likely" to win a Crown Award, but never has, that woman might be Julia Roberts. It's not that she hasn't tried. Roberts has displayed a wide range of styles through the years - and made our 2004 ballot, only to lose to Halle Berry. In her summer 2025 film After the Hunt, Roberts may be trying again. This time, she has a sideparted lob which stops around the shoulders. Hair-watchers note it's several inches shorter than she displayed in recent years; our left photo is from only one year earlier.
If Roberts is reaching for new shortness, is that better for her? Apparently not; two-thirds of our voters preferred her with long hair in light mid-summer voting (2-1). While no one left a comment, this is Roberts's second miss with Hair Fans in a row; they opposed her switching from red hair to blonde in 2024, after liking the addition of bangs in 2023. And if this movie style doesn't thrill you, Roberts has two other films in production as we post this. So she could be back here for the fourth year in a row.

In the early years of Super-Hair, Jessica Simpson was a force. The pop einger with strong long styles was the first subject of our Super-Hair Q&A aection. She reached our first Super-Hair Wars playoffs in 2000, as she had two tough matches against Faith Hill. Simpson also received three Crown Awards nominations in our first four years, and entered the Hair Fan's Hall of Fame at age 28. All that was with blonde hair which made Simpson a stereotype. But at age 45, that may be changing. Simpson appeared at an early-July birthday party with a much darker shade - part of what she called on social media a "fancy dive."
Is it time for this famous blonde to go darker? We called it "brunette," but a voter probably put it better as "a very dark blonde." Whatever you call it, Hair Fans like it; 86% of them prefer Simpson with darker locks (6-1). Perhaps it's a sign of Simpson looking more adult - although some of us might still want to mud-wrestle that long hair into submission.

It's temping to call them an embarrassment of Richies. Nicole and Sofia Richie are sisters. Nicole went on those televised, sometimes jaw-dropping road trips with Paris Hilton. But we focus here on Sofia Richie Grainge - who has been less outlandish, gaining fame in modeling, design and social media. Sofia had medium-long hair for a long time, but in June she had it cut. She explained on TikTok that her new "French bob" (because that's where it happened) was her idea of a restart after "one too many Keratin treatments" left her with dead ends.
Did Richie Grainge make the right move with a five-inch cut? Our voters said NO-fia, backing the longer style with 86% emphasis (6-1). But one voter commented, "NOTA" - as in None of the Above. Richie Grainge admitted in the video that she thought about going halfway, with a "lob." But the man in her life isn't complaining. "Really, really pretty," husband ucian Griange said. And he has the honor of playing with that hairstyle as much as he wishes.

Scarlett Johansson has placed a wide range of movie roles - and that means she's shown a wide range of hairstyles. Her summer 2025 hit Jurassic World Rebirth has Johansson displaying what seems to be her natural medium-long hair (although she ties it back quite a bit). It's the length she displayed at premieres, such as our left photo from Berlin. But then we learned Johansson is in the cast of the upcoming My Mother's Wedding with a shorter style - one stopping slightly below the shoulders. IMDb indicates that was filmed in 2023, even though its release is scheduled for early August.
Knowing the actual filming date, we can conclude Johansson wasn't wearing a wig. But which length is better for her? Our voters said "shorter" by a 75% margin in a one-week question (3-1). One explained: "Longer length weighs it down and makes it look thinner." Fair enough - but it appears both styles are equally at risk of dropping. Johansson never has seemed committed to our idea of Super-Hair, anyway. So we lean toward chasing the longer ponytail, even if a dinosaur's doing it for us.

Blame it on Leslie Bibb. The White Lotus actress joined NBC's Jenna Bush Hager as co-host for a week on Jenna With Friends - and showed up with a bob so impressive that Hager simply had to try to match it. In fact, Bibb said Hager had committed to cutting her well-styled mid-length hair three months earlier. So to make any comparisons fair, Bibb brought her Beverly Hills stylist to the show - Chris McMillan, whose clients have included Jennifer Aniston and Jodie Foster. Hager's hair was cut live on NBC, with the big reveal coming the following day.
Not even Katie Couric in her "$500 haircut" prime would have tried something like this on the Today Show. So should Hager have done it? No, our voters say; two-thirds of them preferred the longer look in our week-long question (4-2). Perhaps McMillan agrees, because he has yet to put the moment on his Instagram feed as we post this. And we know Hager's 12-year-old daughter has doubts; Hager quoted her as calling the change a "jump scare" and adding: "You're gonna regret it." (None of our voters went that far.)

Who decided to bring back the "baby bangs" in 2025? What some call "micro bangs" (probably a less judgmental term) actually were promoted as trendy two years earlier. But several stars displayed them at the Academy Awards in March, from Miley Cyrus to Katy Perry. And now singer Dua Lipa has put them on the July cover of the British edition of Vogue. At least they're neater than the bangs she displayed at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, which put her on a different part of our website. (Did she misunderstand the fashion magazines?)
Does Ms. Lipa look more lavish with short bangs? No, our voters say; 86% of them decided she should have no bangs at all (6-1). One voters during the week-long question wondered if she "cut her bangs while drunk." Actually, there are professional stylists who do these cuts. But they don't all recommend it; one told the Daily Mail that micro bangs only look good on people with long faces. And since Dua Lipa now is engaged, she's likely to smile a lot more - assuming that's what the stylist meant.

Rachel Bay Jones has performed on Broadway since 1989. So how did we not know about her until June 2025? She appeared during the Tony Awards as a presenter, not a singer. And while she'd probably been at that show before, we hadn't noticed her. We didn't even know about Jones's current TV role in Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. Yet great shoulder-length blonde hair put her on our ballot for the most outstanding style of the night - and she came in first.
Our week-long contest began in the final minutes of the show. It ended with Jones at 50%, followed by a tie between Carrie Preston and Nicole Scherzinger at 25%. The voting overall was light - perhaps because it's summer in the U.S., or perhaps because voters found the third game of the NBA Finals more interesting (even if Lisa Salters was missing).

From daytime dramas to Academy Award nominations and the current Netflix series Sirens, Julianne Moore has enjoyed a long and honorable acting career. She's even written several children's books, featuring a girl named "Freckleface Strawberry." That girl is drawn with red hair - even a deeper red than Moore's, which received a Crown Award nomination in 2008. While Moore has kept things red all along, she's adjusted the length of that hair at times. In May, she went to a long bob instead of being, well, long.
Is more hair on Moore better? Our voters were unsure in a six-day poll, which ended in a flat-footed tie (2-2). One voter said the shorter style "looks more common these days." We're guessing that's not good news for Moore - because Hair Fans tend to applaud the uncommonly good. But at least no one sounded a "siren" calling for hair intervention.

It appeared to us like the American Music Awards had lost some luster. They moved from ABC to CBS. Then they took a year off for an "anniversary concert." The show was shortened from three hours to two. There even were claims some "live" performances really were on tape. Yet the TV ratings were the best in several years - and the quality of hairstyles was quite good as well. Latin pop star Becky G's sleek long hair won your vote for the top style of the show.
Ms. Gomez was runner-up in our poll from the AMA's in 2020. But her looks are growing on Hair Fans - as she also was voted the best hair of Oscar night in 2024. Here, she danced away with half the votes. Tik-Tok star Alix Earle led the week-long contest early, but settled for second with 33%.
Heidi Klum showed she still has hair power 23 years after winning a group at our first Super-Hair World Cup, finishing third at 17%. But curiosuly, the XXL curls of Sza won no support at all. At least she was shown winning two AMA's. Billie Eilish reportedly won seven, but was shown only accepting one - and she was in Europe.

In the right hands and with the right tools, any woman theoretically can look glamourous. Perhaps that's what happened to Pamela Anderson. The woman who put the "Watch" in the TV series Baywatch during the 1990s (we'd forgotten she was a Playboy model before that) became famous for voluptuous blonde hair that many guys considered great even when it was messy. But at age 57, Anderson is surprising people by apparently going minimalist. First she appeared in public without makeup. Then she made a big haircut for the Met Gala in early May, appearing with a chin-length style and what fashion sites called "baby bangs" - so short that they stop a few inches above the eyes.
We asked you specifically about Anderson's bangs, and our Hair Fans left no doubt: all of them thought they're a bad idea (7-0). Our extended eight-day question brought a comment that the bangs are "hideous," but it included a question about Anderson's thinner-looking cut. "Age or no extensions or both?" the voter asked. We'd guess both - but is this a case where extensions would make this star better?

It was a week that could leave Hair Fans at least scratching their heads, if not spinning them a bit. On Monday, 5 May, Nicole Kidman showed up at the Met Gala in New York with a daring-looking style: teased over the top to brush against her right eye, while her left side was slicked-down and no lower than the neck. But then on Thursday, 8 May, Kidman showed up at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Frisco, Texas with a more common length for her: below the bust line and straight.
Clearly something's up here. Which Kidman "cut" was real - and which one should be? We asked our voters the second question for a week, and they left no doubt: 80% prefer her hair longer (4-1). One of them asked if Kidman might be "copying the Captain Marvel short hair look from a few years ago". Considering some online art work depicts Kidman as "Captain Marvel" of recent movies, this only added to our confusion. But Brie Larson had that role and that look.
Kidman's stylist indicated to Marie Claire the Met Gala style was designed to have "elegance and confidence." But one French magazine called it a "wig" compared to the ACM's. Given Kidman's hair history (she won a group in our first Super-Hair World Cup), we'll assume the long locks are legitimate until we see otherwise - although part of us actually thinks the ACM styling looked more fake.

Hair Fans of a certain age will remember the commercial line: "Does she or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure." Unless you're actress Salma Hayek (Pinault). The Ultimate 50 member is not afraid to let everybody know about her luxurious locks. Dark brunette action-movie hair took Hayak to the finals of our first Super-Hair World Cup in 2002. Then she won a Crown Award for a 2009 makeover to a shoulder-length bob. In 2025, the length is back - and slowing getting grayer in her late fifties.
Hayek calls the change "white hair of wisdom." But should she go back to the honored look of years gone by? Our voters say no; every single voter in a Cinco de Mayo-week poll support the gray (4-0). "Natural color is always best," one voter explained. But she's a long way from Andie MacDowell's full gray look, so Hair Fans simply will have to watch Hayak change - perhaps wanting to go mano-a-mano with her about it.

Few programs reveal the full, warts-and-all stories of celebrities quite like Real Housewives series. For instance, Orange County's Emily Simpson once was a movie actress. Then she became an attorney - and at some point, she lost 40 pounds. (And that was merely on page 1 of our web search!) Simpson also has a podcast called Legally Brunette - but exactly how brunette should she be? Simpson had wondered that on Instagram for months. In early April, she unveiled a much darker shade and asked her 827,000 followers: "Dark hair or light?"
We put that question to you for a week. While we did not have 827,000 votes, the 75% majority decided Simpson's darker shade is better (3-1). No one left a comment either way, so we'll put it this way. The darker color indeed is more enticing. But if you're going to be legally brunette, do you have to fake it?

The rise of K-pop performers and groups has introduced us to many young Asian women with competitive hairstylss. A couple of them have won Crown Awards and competed in our cups. Now, in a AAA Cup year, we've come across "Ningning" (Yizhuo) - a native of China who branched out from the group Aespa to become what one website calls a "singer-songwriter, dancer and composer." She stunned her fans in mid-April by cutting her long hair for a "W" photo shoot that looks like a jewelry ad. Ningning displayed a long "pixie" look that dares to stop at the brink of her right eye.
At age 22, this may be an "adult" look for Ningning - but is it the best look? Our Hair Fans may have been puzzled by the name as much as the cuts, as not many people voted over a week. The longer style prevailed by a two-thirds count (2-1). But either way, she clearly likes high-risk hair. Could we have a backstage pass to know Ningning better - and maybe test how long those bangs really are?

When we question women for Super-Hair Q&A, we sometimes dare to ask about the worst hair day they can remember. Not many want to talk about that. But model/actress Emily Ratajkowski dared to mention hers - even showing the alleged damage on TikTok. "I just had the worst haircut of my life," declared "Emrata" 25 March. "I have bangs on the back of my head... Shocking, shocking." She speculated the stylist who made the cut was attempting a "British shag" look - with the bangs slowly getting longer beyond her eyes.
The "bad hair day" report has received more than 10.6 million views. A follow-up video with Ratajkowski self-debating the cut has received two million. But our Hair Fans don't think she looks bad at all. In fact, 80% of them in a six-day poll said Ratajkowski should keep the bangs (4-1). No one left a comment, but we can understand her concern - since the longer bangs land in her eyes with ease. Ratajkowski openly wonders how wind could demolish her look. That's apparently why the follow-up experimented with curls - but that's for another day.

Despite the supposed "momentum" from winning a Golden Globe Award, Demi Moore did not win the Oscar for Best Actress. But she seems to be OK with that, because she has other gigs. Moore is in production for Season 2 of Landman on Paramount+, a drama about west Texas oil drilling. But that "+" actually may be a minus for some Hair Fans. Pictures from the set show Moore with hair slightly below the shoulders - a potentially big change from the long locks she's favored in recent years.
"I hope it's a wig!" one Hair Fan wrote when we posted the "before" and "after" photos. "I heard it's a wig," another added. It was a wig in Season 1, and many fashion websites are assuming Moore's putting one on again. But should she really make a cut? Our voters say yes. The shorter look won two-thirds support in an expanded eight-day poll (4-2). We'd note a wide range of lengths propelled Moore into our Hair Fan's Hall of Fame, and a "lob" should be easier to keep in line. She might not need as much hair oil for it, either.

Should women's basketball be a soap opera? Some internet headlines have made it that way - especially when it comes to Angel Reese. From her supposed mocking of Caitlin Clark during college to her self-declared lack of sufficient income with the Chicago Sky, Reese is constantly in the spotlight. Sometimes that's a compliment, such as her cover shoot for Vogue (left) in the winter 2024-25 issue. But is Reese asking for new scorn by making a big haircut since that cover shoot? She showed off a bob on social media in late March - only to follow up during our one-week question about it by more photos with long curls.
One journalst who joked about the cut received a quick response from Reese: "Leave me alone." We doubt our poll will make Reese happier - because it ended with a 50%-50% draw (2-2). "Almost as long as her eyelashes now!" one voter wrote. (We don't tend to focus on that.) Another speculated a shorter look "probably means less or no extensions." Reese actually admitted on Instagram that she "wore wigs for seven weeks" during the change. "It helped my hair grow sooo much," she wrote - perhaps opening the door for a new kind of "Reese's pieces" endorsement.

Pro football teams often make major changes during the off-season. Reporters who cover those teams don't normally do that. But Hair Fans might say one has in early 2025. Laura Rutledge, who hosts NFL Live on ESPN, displayed a major haircut during March - even doing it during Crown Awards season while she was on the ballot for Best Hairstyle in Sports Reporting. Long hair that could qualify for the ponytail prize at times was trimmed to shoulder-length. As a Hair Fan alerted us to this change, fellow ESPN NFL expert Mina Kimes (a two-time Crown winner) hinted she might do the same thing - perhaps verifying the NFL saying: "It's a copycat league."
Is Rutledge right to make this big cut? Our voters don't think so; three-fourths of them prefer her hair longer (6-2). "Her long hair was so amazingly thick," one commenter wrote, "I often wondered if she had extensions." Based on the social media photos we found, we don't think so. We're simply grateful Rutledge didn't go farther - and try to emulate long-time ESPN buddy Paul Finebaum.

Super-Hair.Net recently marked its silver anniversary. And our Crown Awards have featured a "Best Silver Hair" category for several years. It's a category that women of all ages can enter - even women who haven't turned 30. Supermodel Gigi Hadid offered herself for the 2025 title during Paris Fashion Week. She changed her hair color from iconic "sunflower blonde" to what one website called "silver tequila," while a hair color expert described it as a transition from "platinum blonde."
When we asked Hair Fans about Hadid's shift to blonde hair in 2022, they liked it. But this "evolution" toward silver did not impress them, as two-thirds called for her to keep the brighter shade (2-1). Maybe her younger sister knows best, as added bangs by brunette Bella Hadid won unanimous support last year. But maybe there's a better question to ask here: would you rather get your hands on Bella's bangs, or Gigi's daring classic curl?

European governments historically have shown hints of Super-Hair - but not many. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her immovable short hair is the prime example. A lawmaker in Germany and a president of the Slovak Republic have won Crown Awards. So should Giorgia Meloni be part of this, well, league of nations? The Italian Prime Minister's lengthy blonde hair certainly breaks with tradition. But in early 2025, we noticed a change. Meloni's mane, which had been flowing to the shoulders or beyond, suddenly was straight and stopping at the shoulders.
Our voters may have been as puzzled by what we posted as Meloni appears to be in the left photo. A one-week question ended with a 50-percent tie and very few people voting (1-1). Even though the right photo reflects a current hair trend, we personally perfer Meloni with longer locks - even if they've fallen a few times while conducting state business. You might say the blunt cut won't keep Giorgia on our mind.

When the theme for fashions at an awards show is described as "elegant," some Hair Fans become concerned. That can be code-talk for a lot of women with pinned-down hairstyles - and plenty of movie stars had them at the 2025 Academy Awards. That opened a path for others to shine, and red-carpet host Juliette Hough did. With a dangerously wavy pageboy that held firmly for a full half-hour (perhaps more), the Dancing With the Stars queen won your vote for the best look of the night.
Hough only appeared before the nearly four-hour show. But she topped everyone with 57% of the vote. Demi Moore, who won our vote at the Golden Globes while also winning an award, fell short of the double on both counts. Her Hair Fan's Hall of Fame long locks were seocnd at 29%. Third place went to an Oscar winner who stayed unpinned, perhaps because she's usually not on camera. Dutch native Victoria Warmerdam, who wrote and directed the short I'm Not a Robot, gained 14% support - while the slicked-back look of Crown Award winner Halle Berry received no votes at all.

So many Real Housewives... so little time to evaluate them all. The Bravo TV franchise has visited so many places that they became a "Final Jeopardy" category. The series in Salt Lake City has introduced viewers to Bronwyn Newport, even though she calls herself a "Broadway producer" and "fashion blogger" (among other things) on her website. Newport cared for long hair for a long time, but decided recently to make a big cut - first to a bob, then a tighter bob.
Is Newport's new look better for her? Our voters say no, by an 80% margin over one week (4-1). No one left a comment about this "Housewife," but we suppose shorter hair looks more professional. And Newport probably wants the focus to be on the outfits she wears, anyway. But is a look this short, to borrow from a sports team, "Real Salt Lake"?

Our first encounter with Maria Elvira Salazar came in the late 1980s. She co-anchored CNN's first venture into Spanish-language news with Telemundo. Her strong short styles impressed us enough to put her on our Ultimate 50 list of great 20th-century looks. Salazar has ventured far and wide since then - to central America as a reporter, then Miami as a talk show host, and most recently to Congress representing south Florida. She's raised two daughters with nice long hairstyles. And she developed a shoulder-length cut which isn't always perfect, but looks great. Yet early 2025 saw Salazar going to new lengths, from what we've seen - stretching several inches below the shoulder, almost to the bust line.
Is Salazar making the right move, in her mid-sixties? Our voters overwhelmingly say yes; 88% of them backed the longer style (7-1). (We don't know if that one was a Democrat.) No one spoke either way about Salazar's style, but X/Twitter pictures she's posted indicate she can "shorten" things a little with added wave. Either way, she relies on her ears for hold like never before - after seemingly having some of the strongest spray on the planet in years past.

She may have been in the background during the opening number of the 2025 Grammy Awards. Yet Sheryl Crow was announced as a performer, so we were looking for her - and we were surprised by what we saw. Crow's long blonde hair often qualifies for our ballots at awards shows, and her look at the 2007 Golden Globes (left) won your vote for best style of the show. Her hair also won at the 2005 Grammys. But in 2025, Crow cut her waves to shoulder-length. Perhaps it was a regular trim, but for her it was different.
Should Crow keep a shorter style? Our Hair Fan "social club" said no: 83% of the voters over one week want it longer again (5-1). While no one left a comment, it confirms we were right to leave her off the ballot for the best Grammy style (see below). But Crow turned 63 during the week of our question, so perhaps this cut is a sign of changing times. We doubt it's a protest, like something else she did during our poll - selling a Tesla.

Nashville may call itself "Music City." But when the 2025 Grammy Awards were presented for outstanding musical (and other) recordings, it was all about L.A. Los Angeles was saluted in the wake of deadly wildfires, with fundraising appeals to help survivors throughout the evening. Yet this was an awards show, not a telethon - and our search for the best hairstyle of the night ended in a tie between two singing veterans, Beyonce (Knowles) and Jennifer Lopez.
The woman who's become Cowboy Carter tied with "Jenny from the Block" at 33% of the vote. Lopez was on our list of finalists, but Beyonce was not. "How was she not a finalist?" one voter asked. Primarily because of the complaints we've received in other votes about women like "Bey" wearing extensions. Frankly, we didn't trust her - and we also read X/Twitter comments during the show wondering if her blondeness was "white appropriation." Meanwhile, thanks to HDTV, we could confirm Lopez's locks were all hers.
The two were followed by another tie. Sabrina Carpenter was even at 17% with a rising British blues star calling herself Raye. Perhaps the biggest stunner of the show was Taylor Swift receiving no votes at all, much like she was shut out for major Grammys. An X poll we posted during the evening found people preferred Swift's hair to Beyonce's by a 3-1 margin. Were those votes from confused football fans, taking Kansas City over Houston?

Does Super-Hair run in families? We suspect it can - but it should be displayed in the mother first. Cindy Crawford and daughter Kaia Gerber come to mind; we've brought them together a few times here in recent years. Another example can be found in west Texas. Krista Escamilla is the Odessa City League champion and #1 in Top Ten Tresses as we post this. Her daughter, Alexandra, is our Best Mane on Campus this term at Lubbock Christian University. They have similar long styles - and that led us to wonder. What if mother and daughter somehow battled each other in a Super-Hair War?
We'll let you dream about how this "Family Fight" (not feud; that name is taken) might happen. But our week-long first-of-its-kind showdown found Hair Fans siding with mom. Krista crushed Alexandra by a two-thirds margin (4-2). No one left a comment about either woman, but we must assume that mother knows best - and she taught her child well, even about hair.

The unofficial "Brec Girl" of Super-Hair is Brec Bassinger. She's a Crown Award winner and seven-time nominee for her superhero role in Stargirl - all because of medium-long hair with adjustable waves that could stay strong during tough fights. With that CW series concluded, Bassinger did something confusing when she traveled to Las Vegas in October 2024. She posted Instagram photos with a shoulder-length bob - making no big deal of it, with later pictures indicating the length had returned.
If Bassinger is trying to look more mature at age 25, is this the right way to do it? Our voters say no: 83% of them in a one-week poll prefer the longer locks (5-1). "One of the most gorgeous heads of hair in Hollywood," one Hair Fan commented, "and she does that to it!" Hut as we said, Bsseinger apparently didn't do it for long. Maybe our superhero was attempting to disguise her true identity, for some reason?!
**********
She was not a nominee. She didn't even take the stage to present an award. But Emma Stone has become one of those women who gets attention at a red-carpet event simply by showing up. Stone stepped out at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards with a look which surprised a lot of people. Instead of the mid-length red hair which has become her standard, Stone had a pixie cut. Online reports confirmed she shaved her head during the fall of 2024 in the U.S. for a role in the upcoming movie Bugonia.
Stone has changed her hair for films before - such as when she played tennis legend Billie Jean King. But her changes never have excited Hair Fans. And as we expected, the longer look had much more support - 88% in our one-week poll (7-1). "I’ve never thought of her as that attractive," one voter admitted, "and the short hair confirms it." But at least Stone kept the hair red; changing colors were voted down here several times in the past. And as for that movie role: do space aliens have red hair - or something else?

Had it been scheduled two days later, the show probably would have been postponed. But the 2025 Golden Globe Awards happened hours before parts of southern California started burning due to wildfires. So the party went on in Beverly Hills, with a few surprises. One of them was a "Best Female Actor" award for Demi Moore and her role in The Substance. Many Hair Fans say Moore's mane has been "substantial" for decades - so much so that she's a Crown Award winner and a Hall of Fame member. So it was probably no surprise that Moore was voted the best hairstyle of the night.
Moore's long brunette hair (which included a flip as she accepted her award) piled up 62% of the votes in one one-week post-awards poll. Then came a tie: 12% each for Jennifer Coolidge, emcee Nikki Glaser and "other." If "NOTA" left as a comment was the "other," we didn't understand it.
But we clearly understood another comment about two women who received no votes: "Did you really think Viola Davis and Catherine O'Hara had a chance to win here?" Well, we never know if we don't post them - but top-flight styles admittedly were hard to find at this show. Tiebacks and pindowns (see Ariana Grande) don't get women on our ballots.

A classic movie and song of the early 1980s spoke of Endless Love. For some women, it also was a time of seemingly endless layers in their hair - something many Hair Fans loved as well. So it was logical when one Hair Fan made that connection to a style change by Fox Sports and Westwood One reporter Laura Okmin. After years of long, mostly straight looks, Okmin broke the sideline mold for the 2024-25 National Football League season with a layered shoulder-length cut.
But the Hair Fan who made the connection with history did not seem thrilled by what we posted: "Did she just come from a party... in 1980?" Indeed, every voter in our week-long poll said Okmin overdid it and should have long hair again (6-0). "Looks awful now!" one remarked. Another blamed "illness perhaps," even though Okmin made the big cut in mid-2024. But we see no reason for Okmin to fire her stylist on "Black Monday." Layered looks from the 80s could be spectacular, if prepared well. The look above looks attractive to us. And if Okmin is starting a "retro" trend, we want to see it.
