B.M.O.C.: Best Manes On Campus - 2023-24
Colleges and universities, we're told, are all about getting an education. But let's be honest - they're also places for admiring women whose hairstyles are blossoming into their prime, and are well-prepared for a long day of studies and activities.
We realize head-turning Super-Hair can be found on campus, so this area honors those styles. Our B.M.O.C. section turned 21 during 2023-24!
NEW MEXICO STATE: MEREDITH SCOTT.
A sophomore who transferred from a junior college in Arizona, she scores goals on the soccer field - even in a summer pro league. Her long waves proved their strength by surviving a week-long deadlock to become the Las Cruces City League champion. [Posted 5.22.24]
MOREHEAD STATE: MELISSA SECCHIAROLI.
Originally recruited by Wichita State, this junior guard on the basketball team has found her way from southern France to eastern Kentucky. Her work with medium-long hair has landed her in EuroCup '24. [Posted 5.22.24]
TEXAS TECH: SAGA UKKONEN.
This woman's saga stretches from the heart of Helsinki to the basketball courts of the Big 12. She's moving elsewhere after finishing her junior season, but her waves fly the flag for Finland in Eurocup '24. [Posted 5.22.24]
LOUISIANA STATE: TAYLOR PLEASANTS.
Not many women receive nominations from multiple sources for Crown Awards - but this senior who plays infield on the softball team did during this term. She's a kinesiology major with a side order of chicken finger endorsements. [Posted 5.11.24]
ARIZONA: JASMINE PEREZCHICA.
Two Crown Awards in two years mean a two-year BMOC honor for this senior, who's majoring in business and starring on the softball team. She's not afraid to show off her long loose waves to more than 26,000 Instagram followers. [Posted 5.4.24]
CAMERON (OK): EMMA NUNLEY.
A first-year student on the basketball team with a 4.0 grade point average, majoring in "exercise science." She also was a high school homecoming queen in her small hometown - and she developed great hair to match, winning a three-way contest with 75% of the votes in the final round. [Final 4.27.24]
(Second-third place: Annie Sikes, Carley Below.)
YALE: ALEXA PITTS.
Ask this Alexa about politics, as she's a poli-sci major. Ask her about field hockey, as she's a junior goalie with a clean sheet in her career. And be sure to ask about her hair, because her shoulder-length styling is impressive and strong enough to place second in a New Haven City League race. [Posted 4.6.24]
FAIRFIELD: KATIE BERGEN.
A junior on the lacrosse team and an honor roll student from Pennsylvania took a layered look (a change from prior years) into our "March Mane Madness." The five-way contest turned into a logjam, and she won with 33% of the votes. [Final 3.30.24]
(Second through fifth place: Ellie Anka, Catherine Anzellotti, Mimi Rubino, Dominique van der Zee tied.)
OLD DOMINION: ASHLYNN BELCHER.
A Hair Fan wanted to know all about this woman in our Norfolk, Virginia City League contest, so here goes: sophomore interested in becoming an occupational therapist; volleyball star; daughter of a World Series-winning pitcher... and waves with light bangs which almost won the Norfolk title. [Final 3.9.24]
NORTHERN ARIZONA: KAYLA SHEBAR.
A junior majoring in "exercise science," she gets plenty of exercise as a front-runner on the soccer team. Her long hair must have superior science (check her Instagram feed) to outlast Jade Brilhante in a one-on-one match 2-1. [Final 3.3.24]
NORTH CAROLINA STATE: JENNA BARNES.
Chase down the great hair of this first-year student? Nope - she's a high school conference champion in the 100 and 200 meters. Set a trap to catch her? Nope - she's a record-breaking high jumper, too. Her thick style also gave a TV veteran a hard fight, finishing second in a Raleigh-Durham City League tournament. Whatever her major, this smart young woman (as in National Honor Society) is impressing. [Posted 2.13.24]
ST. MARY'S: GENEVIEVE BANE.
A redshirt sophomore on the volleyball team may not have announced a major. But her medium-long hair is powerfully thick (check the ponytails on her team roster page) - enoguh to overpower the competition in a three-way race, with 83% support. [Final 2.3.24]
(Second-third place: Madison Weekley, Cameron Martinez.)
MONTANA STATE: ALEXIS McDONALD.
She's a junior business-marketing major, the co-owner of an apparel company, a barrel racer and breakaway roper on the rodeo team - and by adding waves to her medium-long style, she became the City League champion of Bozeman. [Posted 1.20.24]
VILLANOVA: BELLA RUNYAN.
A senior from New Jersey who's majoring in nursing, but making noise on the basketball team. A Hair Fan offered her sleek long style for a Crown Award - and she's the first woman we've posted who has an NIL "Influencer" page. [Posted 1.6.24]
CENTRAL FLORIDA: EMILY WILSON.
A Hair Fan suggested this junior, who went to San Diego but transferred back to her home state to play volleyball. Her waves look so strong that we want to see her diving on the floor without a ponytail. [Posted 12.23.23]
ALABAMA: SYDNEY SMITH.
A former cheerleader and "Miss Geneva" is now a freshman studying pre-medical sciences. We read that her goal is to be an anesthesiologist, Her mid-length styling has us wide-awake. [Posted 12.9.23]
MIDLAND COLLEGE (TX): CHLOE UKLE.
A freshman from the Houston area who has a volleyball scholarship, her long daring hair is the class of the field not only on her campus, but in her town. She won the Midland City League title days before we added her here. [Posted 11.24.23]
MISSISSIPPI: JULIA DYESS.
Long blonde perfection doesn't come much better than this nominee by a Hair Fan. She's the junior Homecoming Maid, plays on the volleyball team and plans to serve as a nurse. Plus, she has a stop-action hair turn on Instagram which may stun you. [Posted 11.11.23]
SOUTHERN INDIANA: OLIVIA DONOVAN.
You never know who might show up in your Facebook feed. This senior business administration major did for us, as she posed for a photo outside a coffee shop where her title is "shopkeeper." She seems to keep her midlength hair well, too. [Posted 10.28.23]
ASHLAND (OH): MARIA MANCUSO.
A four-way contest at a small university came down to what one voter called "two gorgeous heads of hair." A "Brecksville girl" (her hometown) and sophomore who plays goal on the lacrosse team dominated Danielle Robbins 7-3 in the final round. She also won your vote for the best hair of our "Elite Eight" in this term! [Final 10.18.23]
(Third-fourth place: Talia DiLello, Bri Doctor tied.)
INDIANA: SYDNEY PARRISH.
If this woman looks familiar, it's because she made our list two seasons ago while at Oregon. She's transferred to her home state for her senior season of basketball. A Hair Fan suggested this media major both then and now, even though she's gone a bit wavier as she's moved inland. [Posted 9.23.23]
NORTHERN ILLINOIS: MARIANNA NEAU.
Flipped bangs are a rare sight on college hairstyles these days. But this senior soccer goalie from Georgia has them. The biological sciences major may not get much playing time, but her hair lasted for a third-place finish in the Rockford City League contest. [Posted 9.9.23]
DEPAUL: EMILY SANTOS.
A Hair Fan likes the long look on this senior, who's entering her second season as a cheerleader. But lest you get any ideas about harming this head of hair: her major is criminology. [Posted 9.2.23]
FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON: REBEKA FUCKA.
We didn't expect to find the City League champion of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on the "Jersey" side of New York. But this graduate student transferred north to join a group of fellow Italians on the volleyball team, including her twin sister. This bunch of "Bologna" is fine by us. [Posted 8.24.23]
